FAQ - Family & Friends

  • I have a family member/friend who needs an attorney. Can the CVPDO represent him/her?

Court appointed attorneys will be determined by the court. The court will have your friend or family member complete the documentation to establish whether he/she is indigent. Once the court determines his/her status, he/she may have a court appointed attorney represent him/her.

  • If my friend or family member qualifies for an appointed attorney, how will they know whether the attorney is a Public Defender or an attorney in private practice? Will I know who the attorney is?

If your attorney is a public defender, your attorney will let you know he/she works for the CVPDO. Your friend or family member can give you the name of his/her public defender if he/she wishes to do so.

  • If my friend/family member is in jail or juvenile detention, how will the CVPDO contact him/her?

The CVPDO will contact your friend/family member by visiting him/her in the jail or juvenile detention facility.

  • I want to know what is going on with my friend/family member's case - is that possible?

The information about your friend’s/family member’s case will stay between the friend or family member, the attorney, and other CVPDO staff assisting in the defense.

  • How do I or my friend/family member contact the CVPDO?

You may contact the CVPDO at 325.229.4671 or info@cvpdo.org.
